- The following steps guide you through the process of adding sound
- to an animation. This tutorial assumes that you have completed the
- Flash-Frame Tutorial 'FLASH.TUT' and created the file BOUNCE.FLI in
- that tutorial.

- 1) Start AniMagician.
- Start AniMagician by typing ANMAG at the DOS prompt and striking
- <Enter>. If a message panel appears, left-click on the "OK" control.
- You will be presented with the Main options panel and the mouse
- cursor will have a hand shape. Note that the active frame counter
- reads "SCR", which means you are positioned at the scratch frame.
- The scratch frame is not part of your animation, but is used to create
- frames, objects and background images.

- Note that the Sound Status in the Main panel must read 'SOUND ON' to
- complete this tutorial. If the status reads 'SOUND OFF' you do not
- have a SoundBlaster-compatible sound card, the sound card is not
- correctly installed, or the sound card is not compatible with
- AniMagician. If your copy of AniMagician is not registered, the
- sound option is not enabled.

- 2) Load the animation file BOUNCE.FLI:

- A) Select "FLIC" from the Main panel.
- B) Select "BROWSE" from the Flic panel.
- C) Left-click on the file name 'BOUNCE.FLI' to highlight the file name.
- D) Left-click on the highlighted file name again to select the file.
- E) Select "LOAD" from Flic panel. This loads the animation file and
- displays the first frame of the animation.
- F) Right-click to return to the Main panel.

- 3) Add a sound frame to the animation:

- A) Position the animation to the point where the sound frame will
- be inserted using the "<" and ">" controls. Remember, the sound
- frame will be inserted after the active frame (the active frame
- is the frame displayed). Position the animation to the frame at
- which the bouncing ball is at it's lowest point (squashed the
- most).
- B) Select the "SOUND" control from the Main panel.
- C) Select "BROWSE" from the Sound panel.
- D) Left-click on the file name 'BOING.VOC' to highlight the file name.
- E) Left-click on the highlighted file name again to select the file.
- F) Select the "PLAY VOC" control from the Sound panel to listen to the
- sound file.
- G) Select the "INSERT CLIP" control to insert the sound clip into the
- animation.
- H) Answer "OK" when the message panel is displayed.
- I) After the sound clip is inserted, notice that the sound frame
- indicator (top-right square in the Main panel) is highlighted.
- This indicates that the current frame is a sound frame. A sound
- frame does not modify the displayed image and cannot be modified
- with drawing functions.
- J) Right-click to return to the Main panel.

- 4) Display the animation:

- A) Select ">>" from the Main panel. This will display the animation.
- The 'Boing' sound should now play as part of the animation.
- The playback speed can be adjusted with the left and right arrow
- keys during playback. The left arrow key decreases the playback speed.
- The right arrow key increases the playback speed. Make sure "Num-
- Lock" is off if using the numeric keypad.
- B) Click a mouse button or strike a key to stop the playback.

- 5) Save the animation to disk:

- A) Select "FLIC" from the Main panel.
- B) Replace the word 'UNTITLED' in the Flic panel edit box with 'SOUND'.
- C) Select "SAVE" from the Flic panel.
- D) Select "OK" from the message panel. This will save the current
- animation, including sound, as 'SOUND.FLI'.
- E) Right-click to return to the Main panel.

- 6) Reset AniMagician:

- A) Select "FLIC" from the Main panel.
- B) Select "RESET ALL" from the Flic panel.
- C) Select "OK" when the message panel is presented. All settings
- are reset.
- D) Right-click to return to the Main panel.

- 7) Now you are ready to generate your own animation or play around
- with some of the other features of AniMagician. Try 'PATH.TUT'
- to learn how to create animations using path-generation and the
- multi-frame functions.
